Getting started

What is Heart Team Prep?

Heart Team Prep is an educational tool that helps cardiac surgery trainees prepare for the heart team conference. You describe a case, answer a few focused follow-up questions, and the app produces a structured report — diagnosis, indication, missing information, operative strategy, alternatives, controversies, technical considerations, postoperative concerns, and evidence/guidelines — plus three distinct heart-team perspectives (a surgeon, a non-interventional cardiologist, and an interventional cardiologist) on the same case.

Do I need an account?

Yes. You can create an account with Sign in with Apple or an email and password.

Is Heart Team Prep free?

Your first complete case preparation is free. After that, preparing additional cases requires an auto-renewing subscription purchased through your Apple ID account. See our Terms of Use for full subscription terms.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed through Apple, not through Heart Team Prep directly. On your device, open Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions, select Heart Team Prep, and turn off auto-renew. Turning off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the current period ends prevents the next charge; it does not refund the current period.

Patient information and accuracy

Can I enter real patient information?

No. Do not enter real patient identifiers — names, medical record numbers, exact dates, contact information, or anything else that could identify a specific patient, staff member, or institution. Use de-identified or approximate details instead.

The app includes an on-device check that flags likely identifiers before they leave your device as a safety net, but it is not a substitute for your own judgment and cannot screen audio already sent for speech recognition. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Is Heart Team Prep HIPAA compliant?

Heart Team Prep is an educational preparation tool. It does not provide medical advice and does not replace clinical judgment, institutional policy, or supervision. It is not intended to be used to store or transmit protected health information, and is not represented as a HIPAA "covered entity" or "business associate."

Is the AI-generated content accurate?

Conference reports, heart-team perspectives, and the literature search are generated with the help of AI and may be incomplete, inaccurate, out of date, or occasionally fabricated. Always independently review and verify content — including citations — before relying on it or presenting it.

Dictation

How does dictation work?

Tap the microphone to dictate your case instead of typing. Speech recognition may run on your device or, when a network connection is available, on Apple's speech recognition servers (this allows the app to better recognize cardiac surgery terminology). Only the recognized text — never the audio itself — is sent to the Heart Team Prep backend, and it passes through the on-device patient-information check first.

Dictation isn't working — what should I check?

Make sure Heart Team Prep has microphone and speech recognition permission in Settings, and that you have a network connection for the best recognition quality. If it still isn't working, you can always type the case instead — or contact us with details.

Your data

How do I delete my account or data?

Email us at support@benderapps.dev from the address associated with your account and request deletion. See our Privacy Policy for more on how your data is handled.

Who can see the cases I create?

Your cases — from either mode — are associated with your account and are not visible to other users. See our Privacy Policy for details on how case content is stored and processed, including by our AI and literature-search providers.

Troubleshooting

Something isn't working — what should I do?

Email us with a short description of what happened, your iOS version, which mode you were using, and (if it's specific to one case) which case it involved. Screenshots help too.
